    Fix for Disappearing Navigation Bar

If the navigation bar at the bottom disappears, or you do not see the whole course window, or you are experiencing other problems with the course, this problem is usually caused by moving or resizing the course window, especially while it is loading.

Once this happens, you must clear the browser cache to continue; otherwise, the problem will recur randomly.

The problem can also be caused by an incorrect resolution setting in Windows or a zoom setting other than 100%.  If you are using Internet Explorer, the easiest fix is to switch to Firefox or Chrome.    You can follow these troubleshooting tips, or call us, and we'll be happy to help you.  We can access your computer remotely if you'd like and get it working for you.

Be sure to leave the course window in place and do not try to adjust it.  If you have already adjusted it even once in the past, you will need to clear the cache in your browser so that the problem doesn't keep repeating itself.

To clear cache in Internet Explorer:

  • Hold down CTRL-SHIFT-DEL simultaneously.

  • A new window should pop up.

  • Select only the box to delete temporary internet files and website files.

  • Uncheck all of the other boxes.

  • Click the Delete button.

  • Wait until you receive confirmation that the browsing history has been deleted (can take anywhere from a few seconds to 10+ minutes depending how long it has been since cache was previously cleared.

  • It is a good idea to clear cache periodically - both for the courses as well as for all other websites).

  • Close ALL browser window, then once all are closed, open a new browser window then launch the course.

To clear cache in Chrome:

  • Hold down CTRL-SHIFT-DEL simultaneously.

  • A new window should pop up.

  • In the drop down box at the top, change the setting to "Obliterate the following items from: the beginning of time.”

  • Then select only the box for cached images and files.

  • Uncheck all of the other boxes.

  • Click the “Clear browsing data” button.

  • Wait until the circle stops spinning and returns to the settings tab.

  • Close ALL browser window, then once all are closed, open a new browser window then launch the course.

To clear cache in Firefox:

  • Hold down CTRL-SHIFT-DEL simultaneously.

  • A new window should pop up.

  • In the drop down box at the top, change the setting for "Time range to clear" to "Everything"

  • Select only the box for "Cache".

  • Uncheck all of the other boxes.

  • Click "Clear Now."

  • Wait several minutes as Firefox does not provide a confirmation once cache is cleared.  This can take anywhere from a few seconds to 10+ minutes depending how long it has been since cache was previously cleared.

  • It is a good idea to clear cache periodically - both for the courses as well as for all other websites).

  • Close ALL browser window, then once all are closed, open a new browser window then launch the course.

The problem can also be caused by an incorrect resolution setting in Windows, incorrect Windows display size, or zoom setting other than 100% in the browser.

To reset the browser zoom to 100%:

  • Close the course window and go to any other Internet Explorer window.

  • Hold down and tap the 0 (zero) key simultaneously.

  • Be sure to use the 0 on the top row of your keyboard, not the 0 on the number pad.

  • Try launching a course.

To change the Windows Display to the default setting:

  • Click "Start", "Control Panel"

  • Click "Display"

  • Change the size of all items to 100% or slide the bar all the way to the left to "smaller."

Verify that your screen resolution is set to 1024 x768 or higher. To verify your screen resolution:

  • Click "Start", "Control Panel".

  • Click "Display" in the list.

  • In the Display Properties dialog, select "Settings" or "Change Display Settings".

  • Under "Resolution", verify the resolution is set to 1024 by 768 pixels or higher.  The "Recommended" setting is always best.

  • If the resolution is not as required, adjust it to at least 1024 by 768, then click "Apply".

  • Click OK.

  • You may need to restart your computer for the new setting to take place.

If you are using Internet Explorer, the following security change often works to resolve the issue with the disappearing navigation bar:

  • Open an Internet Explorer window (NOT the course window)
  • Click on the "Tools" menu, or hold down the <ALT> key and tap the letter “T” simultaneously.
  • The “Tools” menu will appear.

  • Tap the letter “O” for “Options”.

  • Click the “Security” tab at the top.

  • Click the “Custom Level” button toward the bottom.  You will see a window with many setting options.  Scroll down just a bit more than halfway through the long list of options.

  • Look for “Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints.”  Click the radio button for “Enable” next to that option.

  • Click “OK” at the bottom to close the Settings window, then “OK” again to close the Options window.

  • Try launching the course again.
